Menominee: Most Wisconsin Tribes Support Kenosha Casino

The Menominee tribe wants to build a casino in Kenosha

A majority of federally recognized American Indian tribes in Wisconsin say they support the Menominee's attempt to build a new casino in Kenosha.

The Menominee issued a news release Thursday, saying it had the support of eight of the state's 11 tribes.  

Gov. Scott Walker has said he won't approve the project unless there's unanimous consent among all the tribes. 

The three tribes that did not sign Thursday's statement were the Ho-Chunk Nation, the Oneida and the Forest County Potawatomi.

Assembly Committee Approves Drunken Driving Bills

An Assembly committee Thursday approved six bills related to drunken driving.

A legislative committee has approved a half dozen measures that would impose tougher sanctions on drunken drivers.

One of the bills would make the first offense a crime, if a driver's blood alcohol content is .15 or above. Currently, first offenders are issued municipal tickets.

Another measure would make the third offense a felony.

The panel also approved bills imposing mandatory sentences for drunken drivers who injure or kill someone and allowing authorities to seize offenders' vehicles.
