The Port of Milwaukee bid farewell this month, to its final international visitor of the season.

The ship “Federal EMS” deposited a load of steel and then hurried off to other Great Lakes ports – needing to pass through the St. Lawrence Seaway before it closes for winter.

Before the ocean-going vessel departed, I visited Captain, Andrzej Lasota to learn about life at sea.

Trouble in Paradise - Town of Jackson Still Faces Uncertain Water Future

The Bishop's farm was placed within the drinking water advisory area back in July.

Five months ago Monday, a gasoline pipeline ruptured outside of West Bend and turned life in a small nearby community upside down.

More than 50,000 gallons spilled onto a farm field in the Town of Jackson, seeped underground and contaminated wells.

As the town grapples with finding a long-term solution to their water problem, WUWM Environmental Reporter Susan Bence visited a couple anxiously hoping for light at the end of the tunnel.

  Earlier on today's show, essayist Kyle Cherek reflected that the word foodie is not just for trendy east or west coasters.  It’s a word that can – and is – used to describe people right here in the heartland that are passionate about food, especially locally sourced and prepared food.  But eating local doesn’t necessarily mean eating from a culinarytradition that is local.
