Praise for Sue Black and Curiosity About Why She is No Longer Milwaukee County Parks Director

Black's tenure dotted with awards.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's office confirms that Sue Black is no longer Milwaukee County Parks Director. No reason has yet been stated. Members of the Milwaukee County Board are not yet commenting, many saying they did not have advanced notice about Black's departure.

Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race is blazing full steam ahead after former Governor Tommy Thompson defeated three challengers in Tuesday’s GOP primary.

Both he and Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin hit the campaign circuit hours later.

WUWM Environmental Reporter Susan Bence takes an initial look at how environmental issues might play into the race.

Peruse their campaign websites, and you will not find plans for how either candidate would address issues such as global warming or storm water contamination.

Milwaukee’s Irish Fest returns for its annual run at the Festival Grounds on Thursday. And as is our habit, we’ll feature a few of the bands playing there over the course of the week. While there will be music with an obvious Irish feel, the focus of this year’s festival will also have a distinctly American sound. That’s because many of the acts will spotlight how traditional Irish music evolved into the bluegrass sound we think of as native to Appalachia.

Kaleka Brothers Remember Their Father, His Faith

Amardeep (left) and Pardeep Kaleka, the sons of Satwant Singh Kaleka, the president of the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, who died in last week's shootings.

Sikhs have returned to their Oak Creek temple, for the first time since the shootings that killed six worshippers, and injured four others.

Amardeep and Pardeep Kaleka helped organize this morning’s memorial service. They’re the sons of the temple president, Satwant Singh Kaleka, who died fighting off the gunman.

The brothers talked with WUWM’s Ann-Elise Henzl yesterday about their father, and his faith.
