Thousands Mourn Sikh Temple Members at Joint Funeral

The line of mourners extended out the door of Oak Creek High School.

There was a huge outpouring of love and support in Oak Creek today, as the six worshippers a gunman shot and killed at the Sikh Temple Sunday were laid to rest. As WUWM’s Marti Mikkelson reports, a couple thousand people turned out for the public wake and service at Oak Creek High School. Those in grief were surrounded, and they, in turn, encouraged others.

Whether you are a native Wisconsinite or newcomer, it’s hard not to notice that the relationship between Milwaukee and the rest of the state can be a bit frosty. All relationships go through their ups and downs, but the tension between these two has been especially apparent in the last couple of years. So when talking things out seems to get nowhere, sometimes the only thing to do is sit down and write a letter, as Lake Effect essayist Alex Runner discovered. Runner is an award-winning essayist who lives in Milwaukee's Sherman Park neighborhood.

Why did Frontier Airlines Pull Out of Milwaukee?

Frontier Airlines now has only 7 daily flights into Milwaukee, and until now has been silent about why it downsized.

Just as recently summer last year, all was well between Frontier Airlines and Milwaukee. The airline had been touted as the new major player in the Milwaukee market since it was bought by its parent company Republic Airways Holdings in 2009. Frontier’s hub at General Mitchell airport was bustling with more than 80 departures a day. And it seemed that most of the hard feelings had dissipated after Republic folded hometown favorite Midwest Airlines into Frontier’s operations and brand.

Community Remembers Sikh Shooting Victims

The daughter of Prakash Singh, who died on Sunday, is being consoled.

National Night Out is typically about promoting partnerships between communities and law enforcement.

However, this year the night took on new meaning, particularly in Oak Creek.
