Ex Fabula: Summertime Fun

Jun 27, 2015

It’s officially summer in Wisconsin! This means sunbathing at Bradford Beach, music under the stars, barbecues, fireworks, and of course, Summerfest! Yes, Ex Fabula regular Story Slams are on hiatus, but we’ve still got a few community collaborations coming your way and we’re here on WUWM each weekend at 3:40 p.m.

Ex Fabula: Father's Day

Fathers. They call us silly nicknames, they teach us how to ride a bike, how to check our oil (even better, how to change our oil). They listen to our first heartache and advise us on our next heartthrob. They take us fishing, lose their temper, use colorful language and throw dance parties in the kitchen. This week, we’re celebrating fathers and Father’s Day with the humorous tales of two Dads.

It was an amazing sixth season for Ex Fabula - with more community collaborations, more community support and more sold out Story Slams than ever before. With the end of the season comes the end of several terms for Ex Fabula Board Members, including Board of Directors Secretary, Andrea Hoeschen, Esq.

Well Milwaukee, you did it again. You turned out in droves to help celebrate Ex Fabula's sixth season and to listen to new, personal stories from the storytellers you voted “All Stars.”

There was a lot of laughter and even a few tears as each storyteller got down to the “Nitty Gritty.” The stories were as diverse as the storytellers themselves and all we can do is sit back and say thank you.

It’s hard to believe that the end of Season 6 is already here. We’ve had an amazing season of Ex Fabula, many sold out Story Slams, a host of awesome Secret Fabula events and the opportunity to collaborate with some fantastic local businesses and organizations in our quest to build a stronger community through storytelling.

Ex Fabula: Earth Day 2015

April 22nd marked Earth Day's 45th Anniversary and Ex Fabula is still celebrating.

In a perfectly told story of becoming one with nature, Jim Winship recollects an absolute perfect day at the beach. He takes us on a trip of the senses, to “a day without tragedy or triumph, rescues or heroism,” an ordinary day and a golden day. This was a day of wind, sand, surf, sunshine and the naturally occurring and endless ebb and flow of the ocean and the simple and absolute natural rhythm of life.

It seems like just yesterday that we were writing our New Year’s post and here we are getting ready for our last Ex Fabula Story Slam of the season. You’ve got one more chance to keep that resolution to “try something new” and put your name in the storytelling hat (we always make time for newbies). Next week, April 16th at Hot Water Wherehouse, we’ll “Do the Math” for our last slam of the season.

Here we are in the home stretch of Season 6. It’s hard to believe that there’s only one regular Ex Fabula Story Slam left before the May All Stars.

Ex Fabula: Circle Of Life

Mar 23, 2015

This week’s Ex Fabula segment began as a healthcare-themed episode. However, as we revisited the stories by Matthew Konkel and Brooke Maroldi, we realized that more than healthcare, these two stories had were two very different experiences in the circle of life.

We’ve moved! If you tried to tune into our WUWM@Nite/Ex Fabula radio program on Wednesday night, you would have found us missing. Never fear. You can still get your weekly Ex Fabula fix at an even better time! Ex Fabula has moved to the weekend. Tune to Lake Effect Weekend on Saturday afternoons (and again on Sunday) at 3 p.m. to hear some of your favorite Milwaukee storytellers.

Oops, we did it again. No, not the Britney Spears song. Our February Story Slam, Degrees of Separation, was our second sold out show of 2015!

If you were born in the 1970s, you probably had a pretty solid relationship with Marlo Thomas and her famous Free to Be, You and Me album.

Ex Fabula hosted a night of stories in the spirit of love, lust and murder at Anodyne Coffee in Walker’s Point on Saturday, January 24th. Milwaukee’s Panalure performed a set featuring songs from their latest release, The Bones - our current “Album of the Week.”

Milwaukee musician Peter Woods shared a tour story about how his band E=MC Hammer unexpectedly played to a room full of funeral mourners and almost got talked into staying with a crazed host.
