Absentee Voting Changes Mark Long Day for State Assembly

Absentee voting hours would be limited under a bill passed by the state Assembly.A Republican backed bill limits in-person absentee voting hours to 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. No voting would be allowed on weekends. The measure passed on a 53-39 vote yesterday in Madison. Supporters say the change will insured there are more uniform hours across the state. Opponents say the legislation targets Milwaukee and Madison, historically Democratic strongholds where extended hours have been used in the past.
