Textile artist Laura Anderson Barbata's work is a cross between traditional textile artistry and activism. And according to Liese Pfeifer, Academic Curator at the Design Gallery for the School of Human Ecology Barbata, works with local artists to create wearable textiles which are often used in live performances.
In a recent show entitledTranscommunality at the University's Ruth Davis Design Gallery, Barbata works spanned a ten year period and drew from African artifacts and Latin Folk cultures to recent Occupy Wall street events. However, for Pfeifer, there is one piece that stood out from the rest:
Material culture contributor Gianofer Fields curates the Radio Chipstone series, a project funded by the Chipstone Foundation, a decorative arts foundation whose mission is preserving and interpreting their collection, as well as stimulating research and education in the decorative arts.
