Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne announced Thursday that he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for attorney general.
Earlier this fall, incumbent J.B. Van Hollen said he would not seek reelection next year. His news prompted several people to enter the race, and several others to consider doing so.
With Ozanne’s announcement, there are two Democrats seeking the post, ensuring there will be a partisan primary. Ozanne will face state Rep. Jon Richards of Milwaukee.
One Republican has thrown his hat into the ring: Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel.
In a statement, Ozanne says he is “an experienced front-line prosecutor with a deep commitment to working on behalf of all the people of Wisconsin.” He says if elected, he would perform his duties “without fear or favor.”
