Center Offers to Shelter Children from Abuse

La Causa’s Crisis Nursery and Respite Center, on Milwaukee’s near south side, offers parents a free place to leave their children, in emergency situations.

Karl Schoendorf is supervisor of the center, on Milwaukee’s near south side. He says the center accepts children from infancy through 12 years of age.

WUWM spoke with Schoendorf, in the aftermath of a murder-suicide in Milwaukee this past weekend. Jeramie King, who was 28, shot his six-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself. He reportedly had fought with the girl’s mother earlier in the day, then killed the child while the mother was at work.

Ann-Elise is WUWM's news director.
