Material Culture contributor, Gianofer Fields introduces us to remarkable people – and things – in the project, Radio Chipstone.  This week, she continues a series called "Curator’s Choice," introducing us to Tracy Honn.  Honn is a printer and curator of Silver Buckle Press, a working museum of letterpress history in the Department of Special Collections at the UW Madison Memorial Library.

Honn, in turn, introduces us to a small hand operated printer that she believes was – if not as important – as Gutenberg’s seminal press – certainly important in its own right.  She says it was the spark that led to the rise of amateur journalism and publishing, comparing them to blogs of today:

Gianofer Fields studies material culture at UW-Madison and is the curator of "It's a Material World" - a project funded by the Chipstone Foundation, a decorative arts foundation whose mission is preserving and interpreting their collection, as well as stimulating research and education in the decorative arts.

Audrey is a WUWM host and producer for Lake Effect.
