Eco Film Festival at Marquette Focuses on Filmmaking

Great Lakes Environmental Film Festival, Facebook

Around a dozen filmmakers will be in Milwaukee over the weekend as Marquette University hosts the first annual Great Lakes Environmental Film Festival. The three-day long event is the last in a growing number of film festivals with environmental themes around the world.

It’s the work of Joe Brown, the professional-in-residence in Digital Media and Performing Arts at Marquette University's Diedrich College of Communication. The festival focuses on environmental issues such as endangered species and habitat threats; but even more so on the filmmaking itself.

"We'll have filmmakers talking about their craft, not talking so much about the issues," Brown says. "We may talk about the issues but to me this is a film festival and we're going to talk about filmmaking issues for those who are interested in getting involved."

Brown’s film in progress, Operation: Wolf Patrol will screen Saturday afternoon.
