Ex Fabula: Risking It

Storyteller Jen Hoepner

We all take risks. Some of us take them more often - and more willingly - than others, but without the risk, we can’t have the reward. Ex Fabula began because a group of friends took a collective risk, and continues to do so. With that in mind, we’re excited to team up with the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center on November 17th for a special curated storytelling event, Risking It. Risking It will feature Ex Fabula curated tellers, plus selected members of the community sharing their own true, personal stories. Community and student storytelling workshops will be held prior to the event, and open to ticket holders.

Never afraid of taking a risk, Jennifer Hoepner took the Ex Fabula stage in September 2016 to share some risky business she got caught up in during college. What do you do when you want some alone time with your date, but you live in a one-bedroom apartment with four other people, and your date is from out-of-town? Turns out taking your business to campus may not be the best answer. Listen to learn why Jen says, “Always have an alibi.”

Tomi Vandegriff is a caseworker working with Milwaukee’s refugee population. She also manages and assigns UWM Service Learners to these families as mentors. When Tomi discovered that special needs families weren’t eligible for a mentor she was puzzled. Then, she took a great risk. Tune in to hear Tomi’s story:
