Former Governor Lucey Dies
Pat Lucey, Wisconsin’s governor from 1971 to 1977, has passed away.
Lucey was elected in 1970 and 1974. He stepped down in his second term, to serve as President Jimmy Carter's ambassador to Mexico.
In 1980, Lucey turned away from the Democratic Party and ran for vice president, as the running mate of independent John Anderson.
According to Wishistory.com, Lucey was born in La Crosse. He served in the Army in World War II, and later managed more than a dozen farms in southwestern Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin. Wishistory.com says Lucey entered politics in 1948, by running for the Assembly.
