Jeffrey Foucault, Live from Andoyne Coffee in Walker's Point

Wisconsin native Jeffrey Foucault, recorded live at Anodyne Coffee in Walker’s Point on Nov. 16, just a few weeks ago. Strangely enough, it was far colder that evening, so we are enjoying a little respite from that now. Since then he has played shows in the US, Canada, and Europe. Jeffrey’s in The Netherlands at the moment, but he’ll be back in Wisconsin on Dec. 17, playing at Cafe Carp in Fort Atkinson.

Today, singer/songwriter Jeffrey Faucault lives in New England, be his roots are in the dairy state. Foucault grew up in a Whitewater, Wisconsin. His father played a plywood guitar and his mother liked to sing. For Foucault, Sundays in the winter were devoted to either going to church with his mother or ice fishing with his dad.

“That was a tough call depending on what the weather was doing, but one time my dad convinced me to go fishing because he said I could have a soda,” says Foucaut, who rarely got to have the fizzy drink. “He handed me this soda and I dropped it down the hole.”

Foucault thought about that soda, bobbing in the lake, for the remainder of the trip. His second song of the night, “Jesus Will Fix it For You,” was inspired by that event.

He went to college and dropped out, took a job on a fruit farm and started writing songs about a girl from Iowa. He did a number of odd jobs, and cut his first album in the winter of 2000.

Faucault then played a rendition of his song, “That Night in Des Moines” The song is a “story song,” for which the audience has to piece out what happened based on the song’s lyrics.

“It was about a night that I played in Des Moines, Iowa, It was just a beautiful show I’ll tell you that, and there was almost nobody there,” says Faucault.

It was a packed house at Andoyne Coffee in Walker's Point on Nov. 16.

Hayward Williams also played that night, and we’ll bring you that half of the show in the coming week.

We’d like to thank Bruce Winter, Matt McClutchy of Anodyne Coffee, and especially our outstanding engineer Jon Strelecki for allowing us to make good on our promise to bring you great local music.
