Sherrie Tussler, long-time executive director of the Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee, had planned to be an art teacher.
She says she didn't recognize community needs, early in life. Now, she hasn't stopped.
"I grew up in a small town and there did not appear to be a lot of needy people. Now I realize, looking back, that there were people wearing hand-me-downs and eating commodities."
Over her career, Tussler has worked with people suffering domestic abuse, homelessness and hunger. She envisions continuing to address those needs, the remainder of her working days.
