From London to Janesville: A Celebration of American Music

It’s not often we get a concert harp in the Lake Effect performance studio. So when Lauren Hayes wrote to say she was back in Wisconsin to give a performance, we jumped at the chance to have her in to perform.

Hayes is from Whitewater and countertenor Patrick Terry is from Janesville. They're both about to go into the second year of their masters' degree programs at the Royal Academy of Music in London. And London is where they first met despite having grown up very near each other.

The two are back in their home state to perform a recital this Friday evening at the Janesville Performing Arts Center with the focus on American Music - that includes the harp.

"The harp is starting to finally be viewed as a more versatile instrument. It's becoming more widely used in pop, rock, even rap music," says Hayes. Among the pieces on the program are 5 songs by Ned Rorem for countertenor and harp. Terry and Hayes performed three of them for us.
