Man Charged in UWM Dorm Overdose Death

Twenty-year-old Tyler James Schmidt is accused of providing the drugs that caused the death of his uncle last December.

The body of Timothy John Stanczyk was found in Schmidt’s dorm room at Sandburg Residence Hall.

According to the criminal complaint, Schmidt admitted to a police officer that he bought the heroin that his uncle overdosed on, “cause he wanted it.”

Schmidt, who lives in Greendale, is charged with first degree reckless homicide, a felony. If he’s found guilty, Schmidt could be imprisoned for up to 40 years and/or fined up to $100,000.
