Gov. Walker's approval rating has dropped since August, according to the latest Marquette Law School Poll, released Wednesday. Among the voters surveyed, 37% approve of the job Walker is doing as governor, while 59% disapprove.
The poll was conducted about a week after Walker dropped out of the presidential race and indicates he may have lost support here to someone he's wanted to oust: Donald Trump. After Walker abandoned his bid on Sept. 18, he urged several other Republicans to do likewise. He said having fewer candidates would enable the rest oust front-runner Trump.
The poll indicates Trump has scooped up a good portion of Walker's spoils in Wisconsin, which had been 25% of the GOP vote here.
Trump, "who had been at only nine percent last time, receives a pretty healthy boost here to take first place, at 20%,” according to poll Director Charles Franklin.
Following Trump among GOP voters in Wisconsin are Ben Carson with 16%, Marco Rubio with 14% and Carly Fiorina with 11%.
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton still holds the lead with 42% of her party’s vote, followed by Bernie Sanders at 30% and then Vice President Joe Biden – who may or may not run, at 17%.
As for one other measure regarding Gov. Walker, the poll asked Wisconsin voters whether they think he should run for a third term. Thirty-five percent say yes, 62%, no. He has said only, that he plans to complete this second term.
