MSOE Dean of Students Faces Third OWI Charge

Patrick Coffey was arrested last Thursday night after attending Irish Fest.

According to the criminal complaint, Coffey was driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes of I-43 near Oklahoma Ave. The complaint says a traffic sign was stuck under his vehicle, causing sparks as he drove.

The complaint says Coffey had an open bottle of vodka in the car, and admitted to drinking at Irish Fest.

Coffey already has been convicted twice of driving while intoxicated. If found guilty on the new charge, he could be imprisoned from 45 days to one year, and face fines ranging from $600-$2,000. His operating privileges also would be revoked for 2-3 years, and he would be required to submit to an alcohol and drug abuse assessment, and comply with treatment as a condition of getting his license back.

Coffey also is charged with operating with prohibited alcohol concentration and second degree recklessly endangering safety.

Coffey is the vice president for student life and dean of students at MSOE.
