Natalie Merchant fans were disappointed when the singer had to cancel her July appearance in Milwaukee.
Merchant, the former lead singer for 10,000 Maniacs and now a successful solo artist, had been on tour promoting her newest album when illness forced the reschedule. But all is well now, and Merchant and her band will be at the Pabst Theater on Wednesday night.
The tour is promoting her newest self-titled album and the singer took some time to speak with Lake Effect's Bonnie North about it – beginning with some thoughts on finding her artistic voice.
"There’s been an evolution going on for the last 30 years and will continue to go on, but I feel that I have learned quite a bit. And for a musical artist it isn't just finding your voice as a writer, it's finding your voice as a presenter of music too, both on stage and in the studio. So I think I've learned to produce records in the way I would like them so sound, the way I envisioned them in my head," Merchant says.
