Events are planned throughout the metro area to commemorate Memorial Day.The 148th consecutive Memorial Day parade begins at 2 p.m. today at 4th and Wisconsin in downtown Milwaukee. The route proceeds east on Wisconsin Ave. to the War Memorial Center. This year's event pays special tribute to all women who have served. Honorees at this year's parade include Grand Marshal, retired Air Force Major Gwen Sheppard, and Milwaukee County Veteran of the Year, Mike Malloy. Other Memorial Day events are planned at area cemeteries including at Wood National Cemetery at 9 a.m. and at Wisconsin Memorial Park at 1 p.m.
