Police Officer who was Injured in Sikh Temple Shooting Plans to Retire

Oak Creek Police Lt. Brian Murphy says he will retire from the force on June 12.

Murphy told WISN-TV that he submitted his resignation on Wednesday. He says he has not made plans yet for how to spend his time after he retires.

The lieutenant was the first police officer on the scene last August, after a gunman opened fire at the Sikh temple in Oak Creek. The gunman shot Murphy 12 times, landing Murphy in the hospital for a prolonged stay.

Murphy and other officers who responded to the temple shooting were honored last weekend by President Barack Obama, in a ceremony at the White House.
