State Money will Help Milwaukee Ditch Abandoned Houses

Gov. Walker announced Tuesday that he'll give the City of Milwaukee $2 million to help eliminate blighted properties.

The offer comes on the heels of Mayor Barrett’s announcement that the city will spend close to $12 million over the next three years to rid neighborhoods of abandoned houses. They can become havens for crime and drive down property values.

While the city program will only renovate or tear down houses the city owns because of tax delinquencies, the state money can be used on houses that banks own.
