State's Juvenile Incarcertation Rate Drops

The number of juveniles locked up in the state has fallen dramatically in the last 12 years.A study by the National Juvenile Justice Network and the Texas Public Policy Foundation says the state had 1,271 juveniles locked up in 2000. Since then, the report notes, levels have fallen below those in 1985, a 43 percent decrease. The use of community-based programs is credited for the drop in the number of young people who are locked up in Wisconsin.
