Susan Happ Wins Democratic Nomination in Attorney General Contest

The race for attorney general in Wisconsin pits two district attorneys against one another.

Jefferson County DA Susan Happ won the Democratic nomination in Tuesday’s partisan primary. She will face Waukesha County DA Brad Schimel, a Republican, on Nov. 4. Schimel was the only GOP candidate in the race; incumbent Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen chose not to seek a third four-year term.

To win her party’s nomination, Happ defeated Dane County DA Ismael Ozanne and Milwaukee state Rep. Jon Richards in a three-way primary. Richards has served in the Legislature since 1999. He gave up his Assembly seat to run for attorney general.
