Thursday on Lake Effect: Housing Vouchers, Wisconsin's French History, Blues Music in Milwaukee

Thursday on Lake Effect:

The deadline looms for Milwaukeeans hoping to receive housing voucher assistance. Then, for all the efforts to create unity in the wake of a violent period in this country, there are still many open wounds. Lake Effect essayist Laura Marshall gives us her thoughts on how we might start to heal them. Later, as Bastille Days gets underway in Milwaukee, we find out why Wisconsin is more French than you might imagine. Plus, we meet the members of one band playing at Bastille Days, who think both old bands and new ones are ushering in a renaissance for Blues music in Milwaukee.

Guests:

  • Dena Hunt, Section 8 program manager; Alba Mendez and Connie Newsom, housing program assistants
  • Laura Marshall, Lake Effect essayist
  • Anne Leplae and Mary Emory, Alliance Francaise de Milwaukee
  • Terra Guitarra, band
  • Reverend Raven and the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys, band
