As Foxconn’s official groundbreaking date draws near, the region is still waiting to learn just how valuable Foxconn might be for workers and the economy. The Taiwanese electronics giant is building a huge LCD screen manufacturing plant in Mount Pleasant, which could create up to 13,000 jobs.

Thanks to a new internship opportunity UW-Milwaukee has created with Foxconn, the university's engineering students will be in the running for some of those positions. Recruitment for the Foxconn internship starts this fall. Five students will head to Taiwan in February 2019 as part of the program.

Dr. Brett Peters is the dean of UWM’s College of Engineering and explained how the partnership came about.
