Bill Kramer is facing two counts of second-degree sexual assault.
The Republican legislator is accused in an incident that allegedly occurred in April of 2011.
A woman identified as “D.R.” says Kramer groped her and attempted to kiss her at a political event in Muskego. She says she feared she would be raped.
Kramer told authorities that he may have kissed D.R., but says nothing else happened.
The woman came forward with the allegations on March 5. The criminal complaint was filed Friday in Waukesha County. Each of the two counts carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
Kramer came under fire last month, when two women said he sexually harassed them during a trip to Washington, DC. In the wake of the allegations, Kramer’s fellow Republicans removed him from his post as majority leader.
Kramer recently said he would not run for reelection this fall.
