Wisconsin turned a deeper shade of red, following last week's elections for the Legislature. Republicans gained a seat in the Assembly and picked up another vote in the Senate.
One big task facing state lawmakers in 2017 is to pass a new two-year state budget, and that includes addressing Wisconsin's $1 billion deficit in the transportation fund.
Gov. Walker indicates he will not raise the gas tax to help plug the hole but instead favors delaying major projects. Some GOP leaders have disagreed with the governor's position and say all options should be on the table - including hiking the gas tax or vehicle registration fee.
Republican leaders have also expressed an interest in limiting early voting, so that the rules are uniform across the state. Currently, municipalities set the time-frame for absentee in-person voting.
Another agenda item among some GOP legislators is to expand concealed carry to school groups.
Democratic leaders say their legislative goals including boosting wages, increasing funding for public schools and tackling student loan debt.
