Wisconsin May Ban Employers From Demanding Social Media Access

Wisconsin employers could not ask workers or job applicants for their personal social media accounts, under a bill before a state Senate committee.

The committee will conduct a hearing on the plan Tuesday. Lawmakers from both parties support the proposal.

Fourteen states have already passed laws making it illegal for employers to request a user name or password to a personal account, such as on Facebook.

The Wisconsin Legislature could approve the measure, as soon as September.
