New quarterly data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that Wisconsin added 28,712 private-sector jobs from March, 2013 - March, 2014.
The state outperformed Midwest neighbors Illinois and Minnesota, and lagged behind Iowa, Indiana and Ohio.
The private-sector job growth rate here was 1.3%, compared with the national average of just over 2%.
Quarterly reports from the bureau are believed to provide the most accurate statistics about job growth because nearly 96% of employers are surveyed. However, the reports have a half-year lag time because of their extensive nature, so this will be the final report released before the Nov. 4 election.
Much of the gubernatorial race in Wisconsin between Gov. Walker and Democrat Mary Burke has focused on job creation and Walker's 2010 campaign promise to create 250,000 private-sector jobs over four years. The number has settled at just over 100,000.
One number his administration highlighted Thursday, is the fact the state's unemployment rate in August fell to 5.6%. from July's rate of 5.8%.
