The highest state turnout for a November gubernatorial election was 52.4% in 1962. The Government Accountability Board predicts 56.5% for today.
According to the GAB, many local clerks across Wisconsin have been reporting heavier than normal voter turnout for a mid-term Election Day.
Those numbers do not include the 306,609 absentee ballots clerks issued. Some people requested absentee ballots and must have them postmarked by Nov. 4 and returned to clerk's offices by Friday. Other people voted early via absentee ballot at municipal buildings.
As for problems at polling sites today, the GAB reports a few. They have included complaints that campaign signs were located too close to voting sites and that some voters were asked for a photo ID, when none is required this election.
