Joy Powers
Lake Effect Host / ProducerJoy Powers hosts and produces Lake Effect. She joined WUWM January 2016 as a producer for Lake Effect. Before joining Lake Effect, she was a director and producer for Afternoon Shift, on WBEZ-fm Chicago Public Radio.
Joy grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and attended Badger High School. Before starting her career in journalism, she was a professional actor and most notably performed the role of "Katie/Kirsten" in Circle of Friends: An American Girl Musical. Before coming to WUWM, Powers worked with several companies, including WBEZ, SiriusXm, Fujisankei Communications and the Department of City Planning for the City of New York.
She earned a bachelors degree in broadcast journalism from Emerson College, Boston, where she worked with several radio and television stations. She was the public affairs director at WERS-fm and produced the station’s AP-Award Winning program,You Are Here.
Powers lives in the Near South Side of Milwaukee and spends her free time making art and gardening.
