Marti, a Waukesha native, joined the WUWM news team in February of 1999. Previously, she was an anchor and reporter at WTMJ in Milwaukee, WIBA in Madison, and WLIP in Kenosha.

Marti’s work has been recognized by RTNDA, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, Associated Press, Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, and the Milwaukee Press Club.

Marti earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Marti currently lives on her favorite side of town – Milwaukee’s east side.

Gogebic Pulls Armed Guards

Gogebic Taconite is doing some exploratory drilling in the Penokee Hills.

A mining company says it has temporarily withdrawn its armed guards from an exploratory drilling site in northwestern Wisconsin.

Gogebic Taconite spokesman Bob Seitz tells the Wisconsin State Journal the guards from Bulletproof Securities were pulled out Wednesday because the contractor failed to obtain proper licensing from the state.

He says the company has two or three other options and will rely on them until state approval is received.

Lawmaker Proposes Felony for Families that Harbor Suspects

A state lawmaker wants to make it a felony for family members to harbor criminal suspects.

A Wisconsin lawmaker wants to make it a felony for family members of criminal suspects to help their relatives.

Republican state Sen. Luther Olsen of Ripon is circulating a bill for signatures.  He wants to make it a felony for anyone, including family, to help or hide a fugitive or destroy evidence in cases of the most serious crimes. 

A hearing is possible later this summer.  Different versions of the bill have repeatedly failed in past sessions.

A dozen other states make exceptions for family harboring relatives.  However, Wisconsin law exempts more relatives.
