40 Years Later, Reitman Reflects on the Springsteen 'Bomb Scare' Concert

discogs.com

Bruce Springsteen has performed quite a few concerts in Milwaukee over the years, but none of them quite compare to his first.

Today marks the 40th anniversary of that show at the old Uptown Theater, a show that became known as the “bomb scare” concert.

There are lots of Milwaukeeans who still remember that show, but none that had the view of our own Bob Reitman, who was the stage emcee for the "greatest rock and roll show (he had) ever seen."

Reitman hosts It’s Alright Ma, It’s Only Music Thursday nights on WUWM.  There’s a celebration of sorts planned for Fridayevening at Shank Hall, featuring live music by several Milwaukee musicians.

Bob Reitman started his radio career at WUWM in 1966, when he started hosting a poetry show called Sense Waves. He later served as the host of an alternative music show called It’s Alright, Ma, It’s Only Music. The title of the show refers to a partial lyric in a Bob Dylan song.
