The American Civil Liberties Union wants a federal court to prohibit Wisconsin from enforcing its ban, while the courts determine its constitutionality.
The ACLU filed its original lawsuit against Wisconsin's ban on same sex marriage, on February 3, 2014. Now the group is seeking a preliminary injunction to suspended the ban, while the court battle continues, arguing that the complainants are likely to prevail and in the meantime, should not be harmed.
In its new filing, the ACLU has also added four more same-sex couples to its original suit. The original four couples-complainants wish to marry in Wisconsin or want the state to recognize their marriages that took place legally, in other states.
Federal Judge Barbara Crabb has scheduled a hearing for March 27 on the ACLU's requests.
