Alisa Jordheim's career has taken off since she went through the Florentine Opera’s Studio Artist program.

She completed a doctorate at the University of Cincinnati conservatory, and she completed a Fulbright in Scandinavia towards that work.

Jordheim will be back in Milwaukee to sing the role of Lulu in the Florentine Opera's performance of Elmer Gantry.

While in town for a recital, Jordheim spoke with Lake Effect's Bonnie North about her passion for teaching and performing.

"I do enjoy teaching," Jordheim said, in regards to her doctorate, "but right now I prefer performing. But it is something I would like to incorporate. I'd like to meld the two together."

"It’s hard to be a well-rounded artist when one has blinders on or just sings in one style. So I do think it’s imperative for opera singers, pop singers, musical theater singers to have a knowledge and a technical versatility to be able to sing in many different styles," she said.
