Much of the region’s arts and culture is concentrated in Milwaukee.
Venues and arts organizations of all kinds and sizes are found across the city. When people talk about the positive affect the arts have on our schools, economy and quality of life, they’re mostly talking about what’s happening in and around downtown.
But professional quality arts don’t stop when you hit Milwaukee’s borders. Open now for a dozen years, the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield works hard to connect the city with its more westerly neighbors – and vice versa.
Jonathan Winkle has been the Center’s executive director since 2007. In an interview with Lake Effect's Bonnie North, he says that creating – and maintaining – that connection isn’t always easy.
