Artist and Display Store Leaves a Colorful Mark on the Community

Since 1936, Artist and Display has united many disparate parts of Milwaukee's art community - supplying people with paints, pens, brushes and canvasses.

If you’ve ever driven on West Burleigh Street, out by Mount Mary University, you have probably seen the giant paint brush and pencil that support the sign for Artist and Display. Within a few weeks, that sign will be gone and the last of the store inventory will reside in the studios of artists around the area.

Before that piece of Milwaukee disappears forever, Lake Effect's Mitch Teich traveled out to Artist and Display to meet one of the people who has helped make it a destination for artists for such a long time.

Nora Hackenberg is Artist and Display's creative director.
