Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos spoke at a rally in Racine Friday.
He says he's open to using money from Wisconsin's general fund to shore up the state's transportation budget while lawmakers consider other options.
The state has a projected $680 million deficit in its transportation budget.
Vos says he's also open to using tolls to raise money for roads. He spoke at a rally to generate support for a constitutional amendment that would prohibit raids on the state transportation fund.
Lawmakers approved the amendment after former Gov. Jim Doyle diverted $1.3 billion from the fund to pay for schools and other expenses.
Voters will have their sat with a Nov. 4 ballot question.
