As Barrett Seeks a Fourth Term, A Look Back at His First Three

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett made it official this morning – he’s seeking a fourth term in office. Barrett sent an email to supporters, saying he’s filed the paperwork to run for re-election. Barrett already faces a number of challengers, including aldermen Bob Donovan and Joe Davis.

If he’s re-elected and serves another full term, Barrett’s tenure would rank among the longest for Milwaukee mayors. Reporter Larry Sandler has covered developments in municipal government throughout Barrett’s time in office, and he offers a scorecard in the December issue of Milwaukee Magazine.

"Because of his conciliatory and generally congenial nature, people don’t see him as a truly evil person – you know, in politics today, people who you disagree with are seen as evil. That’s not so much the case with Mayor Barrett," Sandler told Lake Effect's Mitch Teich.
