It’s been 38 years since the Mary Tyler Moore Show left the airwaves, but it’s still regarded by many TV critics as both one of the funniest and most innovative sitcoms of all time. That’s partly because of the great writers and producers, but especially because of the show’s namesake.
The show was the pinnacle of Mary Tyler Moore’s career, but by no means the only highlight. Her full life in show business is in the spotlight in a new public television special, Mary Tyler Moore: A Celebration.
From Edward Asner to Dick Van Dyke, the show features interviews with many of her co-stars through the years. It’s part of the Pioneers of Television series, written and co-produced by Cedarburg filmmaker Mike Trinklein.
"Mary Tyler Moore is the first woman on television to work, to be independent, to not be a housewife. And that had a big impact on the larger culture, she was a role model for a lot of people," Trinklein says.
