Book Shows History of Rock and Roll in Milwaukee

There are plenty of photographers over the years who made their name with iconic images of rock stars.

Think Annie Liebowitz and her classic pictures of Mick Jagger.

But Larry Widen’s contribution to the oeuvre of rock photography is more specialized – and more localized.  Widen has taken pictures for years of musicians playing shows in the Milwaukee area.

Many of those images – and some from other photographers have been collected in the new photo book, Milwaukee Rock and RollPublished by Arcadia, the book features an introduction by Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen.

Author Larry Widen joins Lake Effect's Bonnie North to chat about the project.

"I had spent thirty years taking pictures at concerts and I had this archive, and I knew some people that had some pictures, and I thought it would be a really great book," Widen says.
