Caitlin Canty: 'Just Couldn't Stand Not Making Music'

You might think that the number of biology majors who have gone into songwriting as a profession would be pretty small. And that may be, yet we’ve managed to have two people who fit that description in our performance studio in the past couple of weeks.

Caitlin Canty’s biology work came as an undergraduate, but today the Vermont native is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who has worked with the likes of Wisconsin’s Jeffrey Foucault, Peter Bradley Adams, and others.

"I did hit a moment where I was actually up for a promotion, and I quit," Canty recalls. "I just really felt if I didn’t give it a try, I never would do it."

While Canty was in the area last week to play pair of shows in Oconomowoc, she joined Lake Effect's Mitch Teich in the performance studio to share a few songs, including some from her latest album Motel Bouquet.
