The Minnesota string band Trampled By Turtles has an unmistakable sound that combines high intensity bluegrass, rock and roll, and folk charm to give you a hybrid old time string band – and it’s even greater than the sum of all those parts.

Trampled By Turtles will host and play a New Year’s Eve concert tomorrow night at the Riverside Theater. The only Wisconsin member of the band, mandolin player Erik Berry, spoke with Lake Effect's Bonnie North about the band's journey that is as unique as its sound.

"We all kind of looked at each other and went, 'oh my god you can do anything with these instruments, anything you want!' And that was really early in our career...and it was kind of like all the doors just blew wide open," Berry say.
