It’s been a few months since Marcelle Polednik took over as the new director of the Milwaukee Art Museum. But her appointment to such a prominent role in the Milwaukee cultural scene is attracting plenty of attention.

Milwaukee Magazine’s editor, Carole Nicksin, is also a recent addition to the scene, and she had the chance to profile Polednik in the November issue.

"My top-line impression: she's very smart, and she's very passionate about art," she says. "She also seems to have a background in administration, so I think that she's that rare bird who balances both."

Even though Polednik is only 39 years old, she has substantial experience at her previous job at the Moca in Jacksonville, Florida.

"One of the exciting things she did there was create Project Atrium, where she would bring in artists from all over the country to work in their atrium. So, it was this great interactive opportunity for the community...and created engagement, which I think is so important," Nicksin notes.
