On Aug. 14, voters will cast ballots in a Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor. Eight candidates are hoping to be the one chosen to face Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November. Today, we meet political newcomer and attorney Josh Pade.
WUWM's Marti Mikkelson spoke with him following the Democratic gubernatorial debate at UW-Milwaukee last month. He says if elected, he plans to take the state in a new direction.
Why are you running for governor?
Pade: We need to start a new chapter in our politics, in our economy and in our education for working families across the state.
What are the top three issues facing Wisconsinites and how do you plan to address them?
Pade: 1. Wages — People are working hard but they're getting squeezed by health care and housing costs, etc. I would give them opportunity again.
2. Environment — I would build an entire new industry of green jobs across the state and reinvest in our infrastructure so we can have clear air and water.
3. Education — We need a modern education system that's connected to the 21st century economy
How do you differentiate yourself from the other candidates?
Pade: I'm not a typical politician.
In what areas do you think you're vulnerable?
Pade: I'm the underdog candidate.
