Mike McCabe has made his career lamenting the boatloads of money spent on elections. McCabe is founder of the government watchdog group, "Blue Jean Nation." And now, he's running for the highest office in the state: governor. He's one of eight Democrats hoping to take on Republican Gov. Scott Walker in November. The primary is Aug. 14.
WUWM's Marti Mikkelson caught up with McCabe at a candidates forum in Mequon, and asked him why he entered the race.
Why are you running for governor?
McCabe: We live in a very dangerous moment right now and many people are not represented.
What are the top three issues facing Wisconsinites and how do you plan to address them?
McCabe: 1. Economic inequality — I'll build a sturdy economy from the ground up.
2. A government that's beholden to wealthy interests — I'll get our government working for everybody.
3. Water quality.
How do you differentiate yourself from the other candidates?
McCabe: I'm the only candidate who refuses to take these huge donations that I think amount to legal bribes.
In what areas do you think you're vulnerable?
McCabe: We don't have the big money in our campaign.
