Ex Fabula: The Art of Creativity

Storyteller Jacqueline Rice

This weekend marks the 29th Milwaukee Gallery Night and Day presented by the Historic Third Ward. Gallery Night welcomes both art aficionados and amateurs alike to visit nearly fifty participating galleries and other venues throughout Downtown Milwaukee. In honor of Gallery Night, we’re sharing some favorite stories on creativity, inspiration and yes, art.

In August 2014, we brought our members-only Secret Fabula event to The Pitch Project (art gallery and artist studios) and Brenner Brewing Company where several Milwaukee artists took to the stage to share their own stories on the theme, “Creating.” Audience member Jacqueline Rice recalled dreading high schooled until one inspired assignment changed her perspective. We have several Secret Fabulas coming in Season Eight so if you’re not a member, sign up today.

Our second story comes from the 2015 Waukesha Reads “Coming of Age” Storytelling event. Page Remmer shared her story of changing careers and returning to college at 39 to earn her art degree. Being the oldest student among a classroom of 18-19 year olds was terrifying and motivating. From winning her first art scholarship to beginning an after-school art program for at-risk youth, Page demonstrated the true meaning of courage, to feel the fear and do it anyway.
