Ex Fabula: Coming Out

Storyteller Bekah

June is National LGBTQ Pride Month and this weekend PrideFest Milwaukee will return to Henry Maier Festival Park with food, music, entertainment and pride.

This week we have two stories of Coming Out. In September of 2015, Bekah took to the Ex Fabula stage for our “Come Clean” StorySlam. Her “Coming Out” story was three-fold, first, realizing that she was, in fact, gay; second, eventually sharing her truth with her very conservative, fundamentalist Christian family; and third, learning to live in her new truth. It’s a story not to be missed.

Our second “Coming Out” story comes from Andrew Larsen and our April 2012 “Better Left Unsaid” StorySlam. When Andrew decided it was time to come out to his conservative Christian

Minister father, he came armed with research. Andrew, being a historian, had thoroughly researched the actual meaning of each word and Biblical passage that his father might reach for.
